A Cloudy Day = NO fly out : (

So...Yesterday ended up being cloudy... a PERFECT day for instrument flying...but not so good for private pilots who are to stay out of the clouds. Our day trip to the Cosmosphere was canceled : ( However, the ceiling was high enough to go on a short flight with one of my students to get some BBQ for lunch. YUM~!! Chris tagged along and we all had a good time.

Since he had the day off yesterday anyway, we decided to visit a friend in Joplin, MO for dinner. It was a bit of a drive (and like any other pilot, we would have rather flown) but we had a good time.

Today, we are just hanging out and enjoying our Sunday. Hope you all get to relax today as well!

Women In Aviation in the K-State Collegian

I awoke this morning to the sound of a text message...brrrring-a-ling!! gr...what could they want now I though!? A friend of mine from school said that I was in the K-State Collegian this morning. I though-what in the heck for? I didn't do an interview and give quotes...or respond to an email....hmm...what picture could they have found of me now?

So...I went to the website:
http://www.kstatecollegian.com/
The left hand column has a section titled Campus News, where our article is featured

The article is titled:
KSU Aviation group aims to end stereotypes
By: Amanda Keim
Issue date: 3/26/08 Section: Campus News

They had a nice write up about the Women in Aviation group and a picture of our team last year from the Women's Air Race Classic. I was surprised that they actually got both Niki's and my new last names correct!! I still occasionally call myself by the wrong last name!

On another note, this Saturday we are planning on taking a group out to the Kansas Cosmosphere and Space Center in Hutchinson,KS. I think we'll have several planes fly out and it should be a good time. I'll try to remember my camera and take pictures. I hope the weather is good for the day-but like they say-it's Kansas, who knows!

Dallas

So here I am sitting in Dallas TX on the only day that I work this week doing what I would be doing if I was at home. Nothing. I am at a small FBO with not much accommodations for pilots so I am trying to kill as much time as I can but am running out of things to do. I wish I had brought that magazine that I got yesterday. Oh Well a day in the life of a pilot.

New Student!

Hello again!

Last week was a quick week for us. With Chris traveling and me actually working-it was a nice change. Last week I got to fly down to Branson, MO with a student for a few basketball games. It was a fun trip--we flew in, were picked up, ate BBQ-YUM!!!-watched some basketball, and flew back late. The guys that went with us are huge fans of the MNU-aka-Midamerica Nazarene University. They were victorious that night...but when they played this past Monday, they were lost by 4 points! grrr. The joke was that if they keep winning, we get to keep flying to go see them...but b/c of the weather monday, we didn't get that luxury.

Also last week-my younger brother, Paul, came to town! It was great to see him for a couple of days. He has spring break this week. They were planning on going camping at Yellowstone in Wyoming...but weather got the best of them and they opted for Lake Afton instead. Oh the young they are so wise--they didn't want to freeze their toosh's off in a distant land, so they went to "chill" at a local lake.

Monday was St. Patrick's Day. Apparently not only does KC have wonderful BBQ everywhere, they also have lots of Irish. They had a parade on Monday in the rain. I didn't figure they would--but as the guy at the library said--you can't stop the irish from celebrating.

News from this week:
I have a new instrument student!!! yay! We will be starting up in the next couple of weeks and I can't wait! Also, we have a fly-out to Hutchinson, KS on March 29th so I'm excited about that too!!!

Lastly, I'm going to get a haircut to day!! eik! I'll take a picture of it when I get home and post it for you all. Until then...!

Robin the businessWOman-Kinda

Hello Again!

My personal assistant has FINALLY returned from his travels...only to come home to more work to do : ( This evening we tackled the Quicken software, well, kinda. We started putting invoices together so that I can actually get paid for the work that I do. Did I miss this class or what?! I mean seriously, I took finance, but where did they say in my degree requirements was there a home business class!? oh-wait a minute....that's right! I didn't get the management major....but look what I'm doing now...man that would have come in handy. So, I had a short lesson this evening on finance and business. I think tomorrow's lesson will be over the rest of the quicken system and entering in payments...but I have homework to do...that would be handing out the invoices !!! ooh yay! (JK)

Tomorrow is Sunday-YAY! a day of rest...and to be rest-less...Good ole daylight savings time again...spring forward..darn ground hogs have to take an hour of sleep away from us...and hold it all summer long until the fall comes and we get to sleep in a bit longer. I guess we'll just have to make do with the sunshine while we have it.

Farewell my friends! Sleep tight.

Away from home

So over the last two weeks I have been pretty busy I have been to 4 states in 3 days at one point so here it is in a brief overview.

Monday Feb 25 I took off to head to Santa Anna CA. On the way we stopped in Grand Junction CO for about 6 hours. Since I have friend in the church and a pilot that lives in Grand Junction I thought I would give him a call. He picked me up and out we went to eat. After lunch I went and watched baptism. It was quite a blessing for me to be in town on the day it was haping. After the baptism I took my friend out the airport so he could drool over my airplane. He liked it a lot. We got to Santa Anna and sat there all week. Ate some bad food and took a lot of naps. We were able to come home early so on Thursday night home we came.

On Saturday Dad and I took off to Rockford IL, via Chicago for a missionary trip for the church. We met up with two other guys and to Rockford we went. We had a wonderful weekend with wonderful people. I learned a lot as the other guys taught the word of God. We came back to Chicago Sunday night and meet up with some people on Monday morning. Monday night after and full flight home Robin's mom, sister, and a friend was in town so we went out to dinner. On

On Tuesday I went to Austin TX where it took us an hour to find a place to eat. Also on Tuesday I was the half owner of and 1970 RV for about 4 hours. Man I wish I still had it, but Jeremy made some money, which is ok I guess. Today I took off and now I am in Aspen CO until Friday.

There is a ski lift 20ft from my room, man I wish I could go on it. Other then being cold it is very nice here. If you did not keep track that is 7 nights in a hotel in 11 Days

One of my airplanes that I fly.

A Clean Car

So last week, the good weather took the best of me, and I was finally motivated to clean out the forbidden forest of.......(drum roll please!).....my car.

It's amazing how living out of your car, you accumulate a LOT of junk! I think I still had receipts from who knows when--last summer-!? I even vacuumed it...I know-that revolutionary machine makes all the difference. Now, whomever I chauffeur around won't have to step on all my trash, receipts, and who knows what else was in there. (IF only I can keep it clean!)

So, I don't know if I will be able to keep it clean, but I'm going to try...it never hurts to have a day for spring cleaning...now on to the house...ag...that might take all year : ) but I guess I will always have something to do.

Free Time

I think that is an oxymoron...or whatever the correct term to use is...because seriously, is time actually FREE!?

Since going into slow motion after graduation and the wedding, I am contemplating some hobbies:

Running-DUH! but if the weather would only be good...I don't like running in the cold. God didn't give us fur...so we should stay inside and cuddle up with blankets.

Gardening-Well, I think I remember Karen suggesting this to me...and I think I laughed-me a gardener?! I can hardly keep the plants she gave me alive--which have since died : ( BUT! We had a small tomato plantation a couple of summers...so I have hope. I was talking with my old roommate, Clint today and he suggested what he called a "Victory Garden" (which I was thinking-yeah-it would be a victory if I could keep the plants alive!!!) He said that his G-Pa used to have one consisting of Tomatoes, Cucumbers, Squash, Sweet Corn, etc. YUM! fresh vegies!!! (and I think I can hear Chris twitching at the thought of healthy veggi's...but he's in Chigaco...so by the time he reads this...it will have been posted for hours : ) AND...he likes corn and cucumbers-so I think he'll be up for it (I hope!)

Sewing!!! yay! So I spent today working on a long-awaited project. I am to the point where I have to cut out more fabric...so I'm calling it quits for the day...but it looks FANTASTIC so far!!! I'll put up some pix of it when I complete it. BUT for now, it's a secret...cuz it's a present for an unnamed individual...so I shall say no more.

**ooh...and Clint is sending me a new sewing project--anyone ever seen a crown royal quilt?! I'm going to make him one...so I guess we'll have to figure out what it's supposed to look like soon.

I'm open for other hobbies-and so is Chris...as he sits at home more than I do right now...so any suggestion?!

Also, update: Chris and his dad, Terry are in the Chicago are for some church stuff over the weekend. They get back on Monday-well, are supposed to...but as you may know...the weather is not favorable, so more than likely-they will return on Tuesday sometime.

For a nice, relaxing Sunday-I hope you all had a fantastic day!
