Professor Laws...in the library...with the books

Haha...Professor Laws does have a nice ring to it, doesn't it!?

Last night I went to the Oklahoma State University Library to get some books for a paper I'm writing. I know it's sad, but I haven't been to the library since I left Kansas City. So what? I'm not much of a book worm...but I appreciate the knowledge I gain when I do read.

Anyway, I went to the library on a mission. I needed some books to write a leadership paper for class. In the usual Robin style, I ask the first knowledgeable person I saw where to start. They directed me to the computer system to look up books and assisted me in finding some documents that might be useful in my paper. I always feel silly asking for help, as sometimes I'm sure they are thinking..."you can fly a plane, but not find a simple book?!" But I don't care. I am always willing to ask for help...besides...they are getting paid to be there, so they might as well be helping a person like me and feel they have earned their wages, right? : ) I always thought that once you have the reference number for a book, it is somewhat easy to find, even if it is written in some cryptic code. Maybe some day I will master the library system. Until then, I will continue to ask my friends at the library for assistance. : D

I left the library just in time. There was a storm moving through the area last night. It produced a shower of hail, followed by LOTS of rain. I'm glad that the company we rent our house from had the siding re-done and resealed the windows. We stayed nice and dry.

PS: I was discussing my library encounter with a coworker this morning. She suggested I take a library tour. Who does that?! Aisle after Aisle, there are books....what is there to see?! haha...but then again...I did go to space camp...who does that!?

My Job

If you don't know I flight instruct for a living. This can be a fun and exciting job from time to time. I thought I would post a few pictures and videos from work.

This is our multi-engine airplane that students learn to fly.

This is what we practice during our multi training. The video is of what the picture shows, engine shut down.

This is a picture of our 182RG that my CFI students fly

During Instrument I take my students up into the clouds so that they can practice flying by only using the instruments in the air plane this is what this looks like.

As you can tell I have a interesting job some days. In few day we will post about a trip that Robin and I took with one of my students to KC.

Friday of Spring Break

Here's to a quiet week : D

And here's to next week : S

See the difference....it gets CRAZY when students come back! eik! But, without all of them, I would not have a job, so I guess it works out.

Chris has been busy ALL week...he got his 40 hours at the flight center-which really means he got like 60, but I'm glad he's earning his keep : ) hehe.

I got to fly the simulator--ahem-"flight training device"-my bad-anyway-our Chief Pilot is working on his PhD, so he's doing some practice flights on several people to gather info and get his thesis all ready for testing. It was fun, but definitely needed my full attention. My leg even started shaking with my toes on the brakes, just like a real checkride...so I guess it seemed "real" life to me! I think I did ok though, but I did make a mistake-but that's what it's all about-learning where there are flaws and attempting to fix them. It's kinda fun being a "lab rat" in situations like that, because I feel like it makes me a better pilot.

Chris got to do the same thing a couple of weeks ago because he's an "ATP". While i'm not that...i had some "real world experience" so i guess i checked out ok too. It was fun, none the less, and yet another thing to better my skills on.

Tonight we might go to a movie at the theater. It's been AGES since we've gone to the theater for a movie-usually we rent or netflix. I'm excited!

Tomorrow's schedule involves sleeping in...yup, and i think that's it. Sunday is looking promising too: Sleeping in : D

What a weekend! Here we go!

My friend the new PILOT!

It is always good news to hear about your former students passing a check ride. One of my former students from the KC area passed their private pilot check ride yesterday! I cannot begin to express my excitement. Through countless struggles, they showed their dedication and perseverence. I cannot be more happy for them.

While I was not able to complete their training before I left KC, I left with a heavy heart, hoping that this student would have success. Yesterday, they completed this lisence.

I am so proud of them!

If My Life were a TV Sitcom...

Last night we were watching TV and there was a show on about the early TV comedy shows, including: I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, The Dick Van Dyke Show, etc. The show was talking about how comedy changed over the years and the evolving of the classic shows into the current day.

This got me to thinking: what if my life were a sitcom? A comedy....and man, would the producers have some material to work with-imagine the characters...Chris/Me, of course...not to mention Delton, our families, work, etc. Heh...thinking about it...i think Delton would have to play himself, as I don't think anyone could quite portray him!

But, since my life is not a comedy,at least not on TV, I still enjoy those silly things that make me laugh. And I'm thankful for the humor that everyone has brought into my life. Besides...how does that old phrase go--if you can't laugh at yourself, what can you laugh at?
