Airplane Bone Yard

PS: this is Robin...i'm having technical difficulty signing in to my account...so i'm logged in under chris tonight!

Any who...

Today Chris flew with a student of mine to help prep them for their check ride. I, on the other hand, played hookie at the airport. While we were on our way there this morning, I got a call from a gentleman who has an airplane out at the airport and offered for me to tag along for a short afternoon hop over to Ottawa, KS. DUH! of course I want to go!

So we went down there and chatted with a few friends of his about some light business...looking at a few airplane parts...etc. It was my first time to what I call an airplane graveyard...aka bone yard. WOW. I never wanted to get in an accident or anything...but after today, it REALLY emphasizes to me why that is. There were about 2,000 smashed (or of remaining fuselages) there. They sell parts of airplanes there.

I was trying to imagine all the hard work and time that went into each beloved airplane....the engineering, the electronics...and now they are just a bunch of tin cans rusting away in the sun. wow. I guess that's just the way it goes sometimes.

Have you ever watched Star Wars...that episode where they go to the junk yard for cars to find something to race in....? And the junk dealer sells them that old junky car that they end up winning in? (did I get that all right?!) Anywho...that's how I felt when we were driving around all the old planes in the junk yard...only I wasn't looking to buy one to race in...maybe another day young jedi! jk.

cheerio,
Robin
